Green is a new Mantra in the whole world. Everybody is now worried about the greener solutions for our day to day use. What about cell phones? Have you ever thought about what happens to your old cell phone when you buy your new iPhone? One billion handsets produced globally each year and only 10% recycled. Average mobile phone user replaces their handset every 18 months. This has a big impact on the environment; 36kg of CO2 is used to make one 90g phone.
Well here is a new cell phone called Bamboo which is a degradable mobile phone. When the battery, antenna and print board are removed the case can be placed in compas and a few weeks later the case will begin to disintegrate. Inside the case are bamboo seeds, these will start to grow and feet on the case. After a few months the will turn in to bamboo plant which compensates the impact manufacturing process the bamboo phone has on the environment. Tags: Bamboo, Green Cell Phone, Degradable Mobile |

'Twould be awesome if somehow your cell phone grew into a giant bamboo robot.
You see, a biodegradable phone is good for when you want to get rid of it, but that same feature makes it far too vulnerable, in my opinion. I don't know about you guys, but I have a nasty habit of sometimes dropping my electronics, completely unintentionally, of course. Heck, my iPod went through the wash once, and it still works! I can't imagine the same being true for our new biodegradeable phone, though. Even small amounts of water could damage it irrevokably---imagine lifting your phone out of your pocket one day to find bamboo shoots coming out of it! Oops. At least the iPhone has a tough, plastic, and most importantly, water-resistant casing. Like I said, nice idea, but it needs some more work before I would buy into it. (Not to mention that the phone isn't even completely biodegradeable, just the casing: isn't it the batteries that are the most environmentally harmful part of a cellphone anyways?)
Before I would ever purchase such a phone, I would like to see test results showing that the seeds cannot sprout until the phone is taken apart. Making the phone completely waterproof might do the trick too, though I'm not sure how you would manage that with a biodegradable material.
To summarize: the idea is good, but it could use some improvement.
(And yeah, whoever typed this up was probably not a native English speaker, but give the guy a break. We can't all be language artists.)
