ViewSonic announced the latest dual-booting ViewPad 10pro. The tablet runs Android and Windows 7, but it does so a little differently.
Android 2.3 (a phone-optimized operating system, but at least the most recent one) runs as an app on top of Windows 7, and can be launched just like any other app. Once launched, it runs like Android; the advantage here is that you won't need to power the device down every time you want to switch operating system.
The ViewPad 10Pro has a 1.5-GHz Intel Atom Z670 processor inside, which is a computer processor that's been tweaked and optimized for tablets.
The ViewPad 10pro also has a 1,024-by-600 capacitive multi-touch screen, 2GB of on-board memory, a micro SD slot for adding up to 32GB of extra storage, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2/.1 + EDR, an HDMI out that supports 1080p content, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. ViewSonic promised an 8-hour battery life from the device. The ViewPad 10pro will be available in two models: with Windows 7 professional, a 32GB SSD drive, and Android 2.3 for $699; or Windows 7 Home Premium, a 16GB SSD drive, and Android 2.3 for $599. There will also be a docking station available for $59. Both will be available in late August.
