There have been rumors since late 2010 that Amazon is working on its own Android tablet. Looks like the rumor is true. Amazon indeed plans to launch its own Android tablet later this year which means Fall of 2011.
According to digitimes, Taiwan-based notebook maker Quanta Computer has recently received OEM orders from Amazon for its reported tablet PC and the device will also receive full support from Taiwan-based electrophoretic display (EPD) maker E Ink Holdings (EIH) for supplying touch panel as well as providing its Fringe Field Switching (FFS) technology
Quanta is the company that makes tablet PC for RIM and Sony. So we can be rest assured that the Amazon will also be launching 10 inch Android tablet.
Amazon recently released its Android App store. Amazon also launched the Amazon Cloud Drive that supports Android. So we can assume that Amazon Android tablet will provide some kind of cloud sync with Amazon Cloud Drive.
Amazon expects the sales to touch 700,000 to 800,000 units during the peak season. The Amazon Kindle has been a very popular device, but since the launch of the iPad and the new Android tablets, sales might have been slowing, as more and more users prefer a multi-functional device like a tablet, over an ebook reader. The Nook Color, an Android powered ebook reader has seen huge sales, thanks to its low pricing and its ability to double up as an Android tablet.
